Below are the procedures for reporting stolen computers:


1. Report stolen equipment to school police (WATCH COMMANDER 213-625-6631).

2. Report the theft of laptops (with laser etched District logo) or desktops (purchased after July 1, 2006) for tracking and recovery to Customer Support Services Center (Service Desk) at (213) 241-5200 and select Option 2.

 

Information required to create a Peregrine/ HP Portal ticket for Stolen Laptop(s):

Have this information available when you make the Service Desk call.  Tracking software works best when thefts are reported as soon as they are noticed. Teachers who have laptops assigned and are taking them home should have the serial number written down so if a theft occurs, they can call it in from home if they are off track or on break.

BEST PRACTICES FOR MAINTAINING TECHNOLOGY EQUIPMENT:  School sites and offices are responsible for the daily care, maintenance, security, and management of technology at their locations.  The following practices will assist schools in maintaining the value of their investment in technology:  • Keep food and beverages away from technology equipment. • Assure that operating system and virus updates are occurring on a regular basis (at least once a week).   The computers should be set up for automatic updates. • Secure equipment to protect it from theft and vandalism. • Keep computer equipment connected to the network whenever possible. • Maintain an inventory of computers and software per District policies as defined by the Office of the Controller. • Report stolen equipment to school police (WATCH COMMANDER 213-625-6631).Report the theft of laptops (with laser etched District logo) or desktops (purchased after July 1, 2006) for tracking and recovery to Customer Support Services Center (Service Desk) at (213) 241-5200.
